In 1952, a Swedish man, Dr. Brånemark, accidentally discovered that titanium is biocompatible. This means the metal can actually integrate with human bone, revolutionizing the field of implants forever! In 1965, he began using titanium implants to replace missing teeth, creating a new wave of innovation in dental technology. In the many years since, we’ve changed and refined what a titanium dental implant should look like. But with so many different types of dental implants, it can be difficult to know which is right for your smile. At Fine Dental Care, we offer only the best implants for our patients. If you want to learn which type of implant is best for you, book a free implant consultation with us in Wayne, NJ!
Types of Dental Implants in Wayne, NJ
Dental implants come in all shapes, sizes, and designs. At Fine Dental Care in Wayne, NJ, we offer three distinct types of dental implants to cover the needs of all of our patients.
Implantes dentales tradicionales

Implantes dentales tradicionales are larger in diameter, typically over 3 mm. These implants also have a multi-piece design, which affects the way we place them.
To place traditional implants, we first need to make sure you have enough jawbone structure. After tooth loss, patients often lose jawbone. However, the less bone you have, the more difficult it may be to support dental implants. Traditional implants, in particular, require a significant amount of bone structure because they’re larger by design. Patients without enough bone won’t be eligible for these implants without a injerto óseo first.
Once you’re eligible for traditional implants, we will numb your smile using a local anesthetic. Then, we create an incision in your gums to reveal your jawbone underneath. Using a series of large drills, we create an opening in your jaw large enough to fit the implant. Finally, we carefully screw the implant post in place.
Because traditional implants have multiple components, this is only the first step. We’ll place the other components at separate appointments between periods of healing. After about 3 to 4 months of recovery and integration, your titanium implants will be strong enough to support a corona, puenteo dentadura.
Miniimplantes dentales
If you’re looking for a smaller alternative, try mini dental implants! These titanium posts are slim, usually 3 mm or less in diameter. Additionally, mini implants have a one-piece design, making them much simpler to place.
Miniimplantes dentales require less bone than traditional implants because they’re much smaller. During your free implant consultation, we find that most patients are eligible for mini implant treatment even without a bone graft.
Once we determine you’re a good candidate for mini implants, we will begin the process using a local anesthetic to numb your smile. Then, we’ll create a small pilot hole in your jaw through your gum tissue. This process avoids incisions and large drills, making it minimally invasive.
With the pilot hole in place, we will gently screw the implant into your jaw, where it immediately begins to integrate. Because mini implants are one piece and use a minimally invasive procedure, we find these implants heal much faster. At the same appointment we place your implants, we will provide a temporary or even final restoration to enjoy.
Mono Dental Implants
Some patients need implants with a larger base, but still want to avoid the long wait times associated with traditional implants. If you’re looking for an implant that combines the structure of a mini implant with the size of a traditional implant, mono dental implants may be the right choice for you!
These titanium screws are over 3 mm in diameter, but with a sleek one-piece design. We place mono implants with a minimally invasive procedure, but they still require ample bone structure for support. Once your implant is in place, it will heal faster than a traditional implant. Instead of taking months to complete, mono dental implants typically take only a few weeks.

Which Implant Is Best for You?
With 3 types of dental implants to choose from, it can be difficult to know what is best for your smile. Traditional dental implants are better for patients with ample jawbone, while mini implants are an excellent alternative for patients with less jaw structure. Mono dental implants are a nice option for those looking for the best of both worlds.
During your free implant consultation, we will examine your smile and your jawbone to determine the right implant for you. At Fine Dental Care in Wayne, NJ, we use a 3D digital X-ray to assess your jaw and plan your treatment. There, we’ll review your options, pricing, insurance, and available financing.
