Avoid stretching the lip to examine the site or touching it with your fingers or tongue.<\/li>\n<li>Adhere strictly to prescribed medications and mouth rinses to aid healing and prevent infection.<\/li>\n<li>After 24 hours, you may resume normal oral hygiene practices in areas not affected by the surgery. In treated areas, gently brush with a soft toothbrush and avoid flossing for the first week. Also, refrain from using undiluted mouthwash, salt water, or peroxide rinses during this initial recovery period.<\/li>\n<li>Swelling and bruising typically become noticeable within two to three days after surgery. To help minimize swelling, apply a cold compress to the area near the surgical site. Ensure a cloth separates the ice pack from your skin, and apply it for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Switch to moist heat after 36 hours to further reduce swelling.<\/li>\n<li>Remember to stay hydrated and avoid spicy, acidic, or hard and crunchy foods such as tacos, chips, and nuts. Refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol, especially when taking pain medications or antibiotics.<\/li>\n<li>To prevent complications and encourage healing, reduce physical activities, particularly strenuous ones, for the first 2-3 days after the surgery.<\/li>\n<li>If a surgical bandage is applied, it should stay in place for 24 hours and will naturally come off when it loses adhesion.
